DIY Rest Affirmations

One of my favourite exercises to do within our Breath & Rest workshops on retreat, is to offer the journalling (or pondering) prompts…

“When rested, I am…”

and

“When un-rested, I am…”

These are ‘finish-the-sentence’ prompts that allow you to ponder how rest impacts your life - also perfect sticky note reminder ‘affirmations’ for you to put up in your home/car/desk space to ensure you stick to the practices that work for you.

Here’s an example of a few of mine - can you relate to any of these?

When rested, I am:

  • able to willingly move slowly, presently and intentionally through my day.

  • able to roll with the punches, adapt to changes and surf the waves of whatever comes my way.

  • grateful for the small things, and find it easier to cultivate spontaneous gratitude.

  • able to engage with others positively and build on/nourish relationships.

  • able to respond rather than react.

  • more open to utilising rest as a regular/daily practice.

When un-rested, I am:

  • quick to react, and take things the wrong way.

  • easily agitated and irritated.

  • more susceptible to anxiety and stress.

  • less able to engage in social interaction in a positive way.

  • less likely to ease into a rest practice and enjoy it - it feels challenging.

  • scatter brained and find it hard to think rationally and straight.

When I find myself in moments of challenge with committing to a rest practice - I return to the ‘when un-rested’ sentences as a reminder of how NOT committing, will continue to impact me!

Feel free to use these, or make your own. I’d love to hear from you - what are your rest and un-rest affirmations from the above prompts?

resting with you,

Sarah x
